Action planning for using MHFA
10% of each course is donated to Kelly’s Cause Foundation
Kelly’s Cause Foundation was founded in honour of Kelly, a young and talented chef who sadly took her own life at just 23 years old. Realising a lack of awareness, conversations, and education around mental health in the hospitality industrindustry, founder Tobie-Anna Durk, started Kelly’s Cause with a vision to create a mentally healthy industry for all through the provision of Mental Health First Aid training.
Emma Ross and Melanie White met Tobie-Anna in the first months of Kelly’s Cause as it started to roll out MHFA training in London and quickly realised there were many of the same issues surrounding mental health plaguing those working at sea as there were those working in restaurants, bars, and pubs.
Determined to bring change to yachting, Emma did her MHFA Instructor course, and Melanie White took a position at the UK Chamber of Shipping as a Policy Advisor. From there, Seas The Mind was born.
Seas The Mind aims to deliver Mental Health First Aid training across the seafaring sector, and those working in ‘hospitality at sea.’
Remaining connected to our origins every course we run automatically donates 10% of the fee to Kelly’s Cause Foundation to subsidise MHFA training places for those working in hospitality.
